Imhotep Charter thrashes West Catholic to win subregional football title [Gallery]
Last year, the star of the Northwest Philadelphia high-school football scene was a Germantown High Bears team which made a valiant playoff run (which ultimately fell short) but sent several players onto college teams.
This year's standout has been an Imhotep Institute Charter Panthers team which is like GHS in how it will send standouts to next-level play.
However, the Panthers are unlike the Bears in how they won the PIAA District 1-12 Class AA subregional title with a 40-8 win over West Catholic on Friday night.
"I was prepared for this game to be a dog fight," Imhotep Charter Coach Albie Crosby told the Inquirer of a game played in East Germantown. "The final score doesn't indicate that it was a ballgame all the way through."
A 13-8 halftime lead quickly turned into a landslide for Imhotep, who will face the winner of this upcoming Friday's game between Wyoming Area (of Exeter, Luzerne County) and Pen Argyl (Northampton County) in a state-quarterfinal showdown on Nov. 30.
Where the East Germantown team will play its next game has not yet been announced.
