Testing surgery for teen weight loss

Wilmington's A.I. duPont Hospital for Children is studying whether gastric banding surgery can help severely obese teens shed pounds and regain health. DuPont surgeons sought special permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to test the device in adolescents. The hospital team hopes to follow families for five years to document the health and well-being of young people.
