Status quo for dogs in downstate Delaware

Animal control services and license fees will remain the same in Sussex County for 2013.
County council awarded Sussex County's contract for dog control services to the Kent County SPCA. KCSPCA has investigated complaints and rounded up unleashed dogs for the county since 2010. Under the terms of the new contract, which begins Jan. 1, 2013, Sussex County will pay KCSPCA $669,230 for its services.
Meantime, dog license fees will remain the same for another year. For spayed and neutered dogs, the annual fee is $10; $15 for non-spayed and unneutered dogs. Available beginning the first of the year, county leaders say dog licenses must be obtained by March 1 for pets six months or older.
Owners who fail to comply face fines of up to $100.
