State leaders honor a Lewes dairy farmer for his service and contribution to the state. Agriculture Secretary Ed Kee presented the Award for Distinguished Service to Delaware Agriculture to Walter Hopkins on Thursday night. Hopkins operates the state's largest dairy farm, Green Acres Farm in Lewes alongside his son and family. The farm has been in the family for four generations. The farm's 500 cows produce more than 12 million pounds of milk every year.
Kee surprised Hopkins with the award at the 42nd annual Agricultural Industry Dinner. “His service to our state is exceptional, and the economic contributions and innovations on his family’s farm are unparalleled," Kee said. "We need more people like him to lead our industry.”
