A new poll finds most New Jersey voters surveyed believe the state should impose specific rules on property owners who are rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy.

Tuesday's Fairleigh Dickinson-PublicMind poll found 64 percent of respondents believe property owners should be required to rebuild in a way that makes their property better protected against significant weather events.

But 31 percent say property owners should be allowed to rebuild in whatever manner they choose.

Meanwhile, 58 percent say those who defy FEMA recommendations when they rebuild should lose their chance to get federal assistance if another major weather event damages their property. Thirty-three percent disagree.

The telephone poll of 702 voters was conducted March 4-10 and has an error margin of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
