The changing face of Wilmington's downtown a sign of progress
Over the last two years, officials from the Downtown Visions Wilmington Main Street Program have been working hard to revitalize the business district. So far it has paid off with at least 26 building projects now completed but officials say there's still work to do.
Although the Executive Director Will Minster says there are a number of new businesses that will be arriving downtown in the near future, all in different categories, one thing is for certain, they're unique and not of the usual downtown scene.
A great example of that is the Friday grand opening of Bliss Gourmet Gift Shop. The owner of the shop relocated from Delaware City.
"Bliss fills a niche we never really had in downtown Wilmington," said Minster.
According to Minster, Downtown Visions is currently working with the Delaware Economic office to make sure businesses stay in the area with a "free rent" campaign over a three month period.
"Every year we hear somebody say 'I cant even recognize Market Street' and that's just from the year past so every year it gets a little bit better," said Minster.
