For decades, Wilmington has been 'A Place To Be Somebody,' until now.

Over the past few weeks, the red, wooden signs carved with the city's old slogan have been replaced with more modern-looking signage. John Rago, Deputy Chief of Staff for outgoing Mayor James Baker, says the mayor felt the city had an opportunity to freshen up its gateways and took it.

"The new signs reflect the new slogan for the city, 'Wilmington, in the middle of it all.' We feel that they're more colorful, more welcoming, if you will, and we're thrilled that we had the opportunity to do this before leaving office."

For those of you nostalgic for the old signs, don't worry. While you can't see the signs anymore, they're still there.

"Actually, we were able to use a new process where the materials that you see out there are actually sitting right over the old signs," Rago said.

A huge cost savings, according to Rago, who says the whole project cost $6,000.
