Temple Law School gets $1.5 million to create social justice center
Temple University Law School has received $1.5 million to create the Stephen and Sandra Sheller Center for Social Justice.
The new clinic won't have single mission, such as immigration or environmental law, as many clinics do. Students won't just work with clients one on one.
Instead, Dean JoAnne Epps says, the center's greater flexibility will allow it to partner with area organizations and work separately on a range of projects.
"I'm hoping that we both teach students how to bring about change through policy, through lobbying -- sometimes through litigation but not always," Epps said.
Epps says the center will focus on creating healthy families, consumer protection, financial literacy and protecting access to educational opportunities.
The center is expected to open in the spring.
