Delaware State University and the Sheraton Hotel in Dover have partnered to provide additional living quarters for students while the campus undergoes new construction and renovations.

DSU’s 15-year agreement with K.W. Lands, LLC will allow the university to lease the hotel for $12 million with an option to buy any time after the end of the second year.

The 135,500-square foot hotel sits on six and a half acres about a quarter-mile north of the DSU campus on DuPont Highway in Dover.

The facility has 153 rooms and will house approximately 300 students beginning this fall.

Carlos Holmes, spokesman for DSU said the main reason for the dorm upgrades is to accommodate increasing enrollment and make facilities more modern and convenient.

Additionally, the newly leased facility will also provide the school with future space as other buildings on campus undergo renovation. According to DSU, the hotel could also be used as the site of the future Early College High School, a proposed charter high school.
