School bus crash sends five Delaware students to the hospital
Five Nellie Stokes Elementary School students were sent to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries following a school bus crash this morning in Kent County.
A bus loaded with children collided with a car at the intersection of Millchop Lane and Walnut Shade Road in Magnolia.
Delaware State Police say the bus driver, 72-year-old James T. Bennett pulled into the path of a PT Cruiser driven by 60-year-old Sharon Hunter of Harrington. Hunter tried to avoid the bus but her car was struck on the left side and then dragged about 50 feet before the vehicle came to a stop.
Hunter was transported to Kent General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being extracted from the vehicle. Her 7-year-old and 2-year-old granddaughters were passengers in her car and were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Bennett was cited for Failure to Remain Stopped at a Stop Sign.
The remaining school children were transferred to another bus at the scene and sent to school.
