Wm Penn Foundation and BCG? You gotta be kidding me!

I'm guessing that Gardner either works for the totally corrupt Wm Penn Foundation or the equally corrupt BCG. Either that or s/he hasn't read the reports about collusion and the unethically-written report (which was a photocopy of a similar paid-for-hire "report" in other cities). I'm also guessing that this person has absolutely no clue whatsoever about education policy, education research, or an appreciation of history and culture. "easy to fix reasons?"!!!? Really?! Well, Ms/Mr Gardner, if you're that interested in the topic, then please sign up to volunteer at the local schools, become a public school teacher, or get involved...rather than spouting off absolute and utter nonsense. Your post could not be more factually misinformed and ideologically misaligned.

Closings are not reforms, they are not savings. This is privatization, pure & simple. These schools will close, and more test-training (those are the good ones), corporate style charters will open in their wake, further undermining the financial stability of our district as kids are forced - not choosing - but forced- to exit the neighborhood public school system. If the family is less lucky, they may land in a charter under federal investigation, or abusing public dollars or being irresponsible employers, firing or hiring in arbitrary ways, adopting an unsafe commute, and losing valuable, experienced mentoring relationships as their school community is plucked up, and tossed in the air without a care where they land. Instead, we should be adopting successful programs seen in Ohio for example, where community schools are in full force and WORKING SUCCESSFULLY by listening to kids, parents, teachers, principals and welcoming support services into the building for cost-savings and efficiency. AND AND AND actively engage in the political process at the state and local levels to ensure fair, reliable investment into our schools - ALL SCHOOLS, ALL FAMILIES - given a shot instead of thrown onto the "free market" of school "choice". While were at it, the Pentagon has a budget of $633 BILLION to harm, kill & maim while we deal with this B.S> in our communities.

Insane and Abusive to the Children.....

Time to close City Council up for good; what a dependably irresponsible bunch, especially those who have warmed a seat there for more than two terms! Good grief! The Wm. Penn Foundation, our city's very own wise, compassionate and rich uncle, hired a very well respected consulting firm to help save millions, help reform the schools for the children and to figure out how to consolidate and close half empty school buildings. With generations of children, mostly black, remaining in the public schools getting horrid educations due to all sorts of easy to fix reasons, how could anyone in City Council prevent all these reforms from moving ahead for the children immediately? How frustrating! How stupid! How does this happen continually to the very children most in need? Who in City Council will stand up and say, "I am willfully destroying the futures of all these children?"
