Tropical Storm Erin forms off Africa
Tropical Storm Erin formed near the Cape Verde Islands today, becoming the fifth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
The storm is heading away from Africa, with no threat to land for the foreseeable future.
Modest strengthening is expected for a few days, courtesy of a "moist, low-shear environment," before hitting a drier, more stable environment and weakening later, according to the National Hurricane Center.
