Corbett enlists help to get his legislative agenda moving
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has called on an audience outside of Harrisburg to promote the major issues on his legislative agenda.
He asked the crowd at a Harrisburg Region Chamber of Commerce event to talk up a transportation funding package that has yet to be considered by the full state Senate or House.
"Over 30,000 buses every school day travel on the bridges and roads of Pennsylvania with 1.5 million children. Do it for them. Talk to your legislators. Encourage them," he said. "Let's get moving and get this done and get it to the governor's desk by June 30th."
He also mentioned the liquor privatization bill that has been tied up in hearings for weeks in the Senate, forcefully dismissing the assertion by one key senator that the issue needs to be studied further.
Corbett even mentioned his pension overhaul plan -- which only recently was introduced as legislation.
He told members of the audience to be his evangelists for the plan.
State lawmakers are back in session the first week of June.
