Nutter vetoes mandatory sick leave in Philly
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has decided to veto the bill calling for all city businesses to provide sick leave for their workers.
Councilman Bill Greenlee said he's disappointed the mayor vetoed the sick leave bill, especially since the council amended it over and over again to meet demands from the business community.
"I really believe that we addressed every issue that was brought up except 'Don't do it,' which is what ultimately a lot of the business people really wanted," Greenlee said.
The bill passed by just one vote. Greenlee said he's not sure he can find the additional three votes necessary to override the veto.
"I think this deserves some time to think about it a little bit," he said Tuesday.
Council members will have the summer to think over the bill. They return from their recess Sept. 8.
