Greyhounds take over Delaware beach for a good cause

Dewey Beach has always been known as a dog friendly beach. For the last 15 years those who are passionate about Greyhound rescue have used it to raise the funds to support their cause.

This weekend Greyhound lovers from across the country got a chance to get their dogs out on the beach and look through a number of vendors and those who were there to build awareness for Greyhound rescues.

Rehoboth Beach has looked at what Dewey has done to attract the Greyhound groups and has waived some of its dogs-on-the-beach restrictions. There were some merchants in the Rehoboth firehouse and convention center.

Some of those connected with the festival say the crowds are down slightly from years past, but point out the event is more organized.   Facebook and other social media are used to remind people of the event. For those connected with Greyhound rescue is a must-do on their fall calendar. Who wouldn’t want to go to an ice cream social as was held on Friday or let their dogs walk along the beach on an 80 degree fall day?

First State Greyhound rescue was one of the many groups to participate. Its goal is to find a way to place the thousands of dogs who can no longer participate in dog racing events around the country.
