If you have an unfinished documentary and are out of money, a new contest could be your salvation.

The Derek Freese Film Foundation's contest will offer up to $35,000 for documentarians to finish their masterpieces. The goal is to find a worthy project and help make it reality, says Sharon Pinkinson, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office.

"In the documentary world, $35,000 is a whole lot of money, so we're extremely excited," she said. "And we know the documentary world is going to be very very excited about this announcement."

In order to be eligible, the film must have a connection to the Philadelphia region.

"Applications will be open beginning Jan. 28 and there's a deadline of June 7," she said. "We will probably announce the winner at the Philadelphia Film Festival in the fall."
