The United States Coast Guard rescued two people after their boat capsized two miles off the Absecon Inlet in Atlantic County on Tuesday.

The nearby Coast Guard Station Atlantic City received a report from the Atlantic City Police Department at 11:21 a.m of two people in the water after their 18-foot boat overturned, according to an agency news release.

The station immediately launched two 29-foot response boat crews, which rescued the two boaters from the water and transported them to emergency medical personnel at base's dock at 11:52 a.m. Information about their conditions was not released.

Officials say neither was wearing a life jacket.

"The fast action of the response crews at Station Atlantic City helped these two individuals today, but boaters should always wear life jackets on the water." said Petty Officer 2nd Class Kevin Wilson, a crewmember at Station Atlantic City.

"The maritime environment can be unpredictable and having a life jacket already on is one of the best ways to improve your chances if disaster strikes on the water," he added.
