Officials with charities in New Jersey are hoping people will have the holiday spirit and give them some cash before the end of the year.

There has been an outpouring of generosity in response to Hurricane Sandy, but donations to many charitable organizations are down, according to Linda Czipo, executive director of the Center for Non-Profits. The organization represents all the charities in the Garden State.

"Either the people or the businesses that they counted on for donations have themselves been affected," she said. "Or perhaps donated funds have been redirected to disaster relief and response."

Czipo also blames the economy for the falloff in contributions to charities.

She says the final week of the year is usually when people increase giving, and many charities are still hopeful they'll be able to meet their fundraising goals before 2013 begins.
