Pa. deadline for senior tax, rent rebate applications nears
Pennsylvania's seniors and disabled residents are nearing a deadline to apply for property tax and rent rebates.
Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 31 for rebates ranging from $250 to $650.
Among eligible Pennsylvanians are those "65 and older; widows and widowers, age 50 and older; people with disabilities, age 18 and older," says Maia Warren, spokeswoman for the state Department of Revenue, lists the eligible Pennsylvanians:
The cap on annual income is $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters. Only half of an applicant's Social Security income is counted.
There is additional relief available, which could bring a single rebate total to $975 for some.
The supplemental rebates are for seniors throughout the state who make less than $30,000 a year and are paying 15 percent of it in property taxes.
Seniors making less than $30,000 in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Scranton are also eligible for the extra relief.
