Pa. releases list of low-achieving schools
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has released a list of the lowest-achieving schools across the state and nearly half are in the Philadelphia region.
According to ABC6, 178 of the 406 schools on the state's list are in Philadelphia, and 27 are in Delaware County. Reading also topped the charts with 13 schools.
Students who attend these schools may be eligible for vouchers to attend a higher achieving school that participates in the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program.
In what comes at a time of great discussion and possible change for the Philadelphia school district, making the state's list of low-performers could have a serious impact on the future of some of these programs. Schools that made the list include Gompers, Germantown High School and Martin Luther King High School, each of which has been very outspoken about changes for their individual schools.
