For the second time in a week, a member of Germantown High School's Class of 1965 has written in with recollections of going to a school in its final year.

Today, we hear from Rachelle Lerner, who was known as Rachelle Blumenfeld back then.

Here's what she had to say:

"I have many memories of Germantown High School. I am still best friends with two people that I met at Germantown.

"In the morning, I would go up to the balcony of the auditorium and talk to Robert Cosby (Bill's brother and a member of Jan. 1965 class). Bob even arranged for Bill to come to the school and it cost us $0.50 to see him. The money went to a scholarship fund."

[Editor's note: Another GHS grad identified Bob Cosby as Bill's cousin; that may have additionally been the case, but there is a record of Bill having a brother named Bob.]

"I was a volunteer in the school library and was part of our yearbook staff. I remember going to basketball games in 1964 when they went on to win the city championship.

"I often speak about Mrs. Jones, remedial gym teacher; Mr. Schick who taught chemistry and Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Farmer who taught English. I even helped to organize one of our class reunions."

As the final day of Germantown High School's 99-year history approaches — the Class of '13 will don caps and gowns on June 19 — NewsWorks will present a series of stories including interviews with grads and former students.
