Lower taxes may be brewing for small breweries if Pennsylvania's Democratic U.S. senator has any pull.

Bob Casey, who is calling for a reduction in taxes for the breweries, said the same legislation would also increase the amount of beer companies can sell and still be considered "small."

"Taxes, as relates to breweries, have really not changed since the mid-1970s. Since that timeframe, breweries have grown substantially in size," he said while touring Troeg's Brewing Company in Hershey to tout the proposal.

With 30 co-sponsors on both sides of the aisle in Washington, the measure stands a chance of being part of a larger package addressing tax reform, he said.

Chris Trogner, who founded Troeg's with his brother, John, said the plan would help their brewery grow beyond its current 135 employees.
