Dr. Philip Syng Physick was a renowned University of Pennsylvania-trained surgeon born during the American Revolution. His Society Hill home is now a museum showcasing, among other things, the surgical instruments he used to operate on such historical figures as Chief Justice John Marshall, First Lady Dolley Madison, and the daughters of Presidents John Adams and James Monroe.
