Area musicians and the city of Philadelphia are joining together for a talent search.

The casting call will be conducted online.

Beginning Tuesday, musicians can register for PHL Live by sending in a YouTube video of their performance.

Spread across 10 musical genres, the competition is designed to give Philadelphia artists exposure, said Jerri Lynne Johnson, founder of the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra.

"To young people -- or even to people who are more mature and can't realize their talent in the way that they want to -- PHL Live gives them an opportunity to live out their dream and to maybe make that dream a reality," Johnson said.

Finalists will have an opportunity to perform at venues such as Silk City and World Cafe Live.  Winners in each category will be announced at the Trocadero in December.

The public will pick the overall winner through online voting.

Applications will be accepted through the end of September.
