Philadelphia's bike share program has new title sponsor and namesake.

It will debut this spring as Indego to recognize sponsor Independence Blue Cross. The health insurer is buying the naming rights for $8.5 million over five years. Independence CEO Dan Hilferty says it's a natural choice to invest in a healthy mode of transportation.

"What better way than to promote folks getting a bike riding from a bus station to work riding from work to a train station, a leisurely ride on a Saturday," Hilferty said.

Andrew Stober from the Mayor's Office of Transportation says the program can't work without this funding.

"We expecting thousands of folks are going to join the system in the first year and there will hundreds of thousands of rides," Stober said.

Philly plans to be the first major city to allow bike share riders to pay without a credit or debit card.
