Cape Henlopen State Park's Point Beach is reopen as of today, though bayside beach remains closed until Oct. 1.

Point Beach, on Delaware's oceanfront, will be open to pedestrians and surf-fishing vehicles, while the bayside area remains in use for only shorebirds migrating south for the winter.

Point Beach closed in March, as it does annually, to protect the piping plovers, oystercatchers, least terns and other threatened and endangered beachnesters and migratory shorebirds during nesting season. The state Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has been closing the Point for the birds since 1993.
