For the second consecutive season, the Germantown Bears High School football team handily defeated their Thanksgiving Day rivals from MLK High at Benjamin Johnston Memorial Stadium.

On Thursday, the Bears defeated the Cougars 48-0, topping last year's 43-0 dismantling.

Bears head coach Michael Hawkins noted that his team came out flat in a first half that saw them take a 14-0 lead after two quarters. However, the team made adjustments at halftime, he said.

"It is the big rivalry. I don't really have to get them up for that," he said of a team featuring fewer than eight seniors. "It is a great group of kids."

MLK has won the rivalry game four times since 1990.
