Paulsboro evacuation zone widens as shelter-in-place advisory expires for others

More New Jersey residents are being ordered to leave their homes after a train derailment last week released a hazardous gas into the air.
But officials say that doubling the size of the evacuated area to include about 100 more homes means they can lift a shelter-in-place order that had covered the entire town of Paulsboro.
Schools will remain closed this week. The Coast Guard says it hopes to get the remaining 600 to 800 gallons of vinyl chloride out of a breached tanker car by Sunday. As a result, the evacuation order is expected to remain in effect until Sunday, a day longer than previously expected.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident.
