Update: Arrests made in case of four adults locked up in basement of Philly home

The Associated Press reports three people have been arrested in the case of four malnourished, mentally disabled adults who were discovered locked in the basement of a home in northeast Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police made the discovery yesterday of four adults who appeared to have been locked up behind a steel door in a basement in the city's Tacony neighborhood.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a 51-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene, while two others, a woman and another man, were taken into custody Saturday night.

Several media outlets, including Fox 29, report police were called to the 4700 block of Longshore Ave. to help with a dispute with a landlord Saturday morning.

While in the basement of the building, police apparently heard a noise behind a locked steel door. When the door was opened, police found four people who appeared to be disabled and malnourished.

WPVI-TV reports the four adults were confined to a 15 by 15-foot space

According to Fox 29, three of the people found are men, with the oldest being 40. The fourth person, a woman, appeared to be about 20-years-old.

Fox 29 says chains were allegedly used to restrain some of them.

All four were taken to Frankford Hospital, where they are being cared for and fed.
