SEPTA prepares to remove gender stickers from monthly transpasses

A move once tied to SEPTA's implementation of a new fare system is moving ahead on its own.
The transit agency has agreed to remove gender stickers from its monthly transpasses by 2015, much to the delight of Riders Against Gender Exclusion. Citing a press release from RAGE, our partners at Philadelphia Weekly report SEPTA will begin the process of changing the policy later next year.
Members of RAGE have been arguing for years that the little 'M' and 'F' stickers on transpasses discriminate against transgender riders. SEPTA has admitted the system is outdated.
