A jury today found 20-year-old Donte Johnson guilty of the rape and murder of Sabina Rose O'Donnell in 2010. He was immediately sentenced to life in prison plus 40 to 80 additional years.
Johnson was arrested shortly after O'Donnell's body was found outside her Northern Liberties home in the summer of 2010. A waitress at a popular restaurant in the neighborhood, she'd been followed home, robbed, raped and killed. "At only 20 years old Donte Johnson will now have will have to spend the rest of his life behind bars dealing with the consequences of his terrible actions.” District Attorney Seth Williams said in a statement following Johnson's conviction.
The defense tried to argue Johnson has brain damage that kept him from clear decision-making and prompted his confession to police. He was 18 at the time of his arrest and O'Donnell was 20 when she died.
