Paulsboro, N.J. residents receive health surveys to document symptoms after vinyl chloride exposure

The New Jersey Department of Health has distributed household health surveys to Paulsboro area residents and are urging families to fill them out as accurately and in as timely a fashion as possible.

According to the South Jersey Times, the seven-page form asks who lives in each residence and for each individual to document any symptoms of vinyl chloride exposure they noticed in the days following the Nov. 30 train derailment.

Vinyl chloride is known to cause headaches, dizziness, eye irritation and breathing problems if inhaled in large quantities.

Surveys were sent through the mail to 3,000 homes, and approximately 154 households were surveyed door to door by the state's health department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
