Pa. urged as site for air traffic control facility

Members of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation are lobbying federal aviation officials to give the commonwealth equal weight with New York when choosing a site for a new air traffic control facility.

The Intelligencer says Pennsylvania's two U.S. senators and nine U.S. House members have asked the Federal Aviation Administration to consider properties in the eastern part of the state.

They say in a letter that private and federal sites that would fit the bill are in areas with lower costs of living and an existing security presence that could save money.

In July, the FAA said New York had been chosen as the site of a new air traffic control center serving the busy New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
