Nutter speaks to Chamber of Commerce about Philadelphia's future

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter told the Chamber of Commerce Monday that making Philadelphia International Airport larger is a major priority as he begins a second term.  He also said he would be coming back to the group later on behalf of the city schools.

The speech to business leaders included a push for expanding airport among other major projects, but the mayor said the city can't achieve the goal without help.

"We need to continue to work with our partners in Harrisburg and Washington to invest in the crucial infrastructure projects that keep this region moving," said Nutter.

The mayor also warned businesses he would be asking for their help for the struggling city schools.

"There will come a time when I need to ask for even greater support and assistance from this business community but only when a specific plan has been developed with defined goals and deliverables," said Nutter.  "The SRC (School Reform Commission) and district management must show all of us a turnaround plan with a commitment for success by all the stakeholders including represented and non-represented employees.

Mayor Nutter called on Philadelphia businesses to become ambassadors for the city.
