Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware in top 15 on bike-friendly states list
May 22, 2012
By Shannon McDonaldWashington is the bike-friendliest state in the nation, according to rankings by the League of American Bicyclists.
But Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware have nothing to be ashamed about for the rankings as the 15th, seventh and 10th bike-friendly states. "With dedicated state funding for bicycling projects, Governor Jack Markell and the state departments of Transportation and Natural Resources and Environmental Control are leading the way to create a multi-modal transportation system," the press release from the League reads.
On its state report card, the League gave Delaware a thumbs up for safe passing laws, state funding, advocacy and safety campaigns. Ranked slightly higher, New Jersey got points for including bike safety in its highway safety plan, and for its bike education for police. Pennsylvania, still a respectable 15, was complimented for its streets policy and state bicycle plan.
