N.J. shore points roughed up with Hurricane Sandy approach

It's late morning in Belmar New Jersey, and folks are already experiencing a taste of Hurricane Sandy. Several brave residents have come to the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the storm's effect while conditions are still safe.

Jimmy Ferrari, 55, of Wall Township rode over on his bike. "I already wiped out once already," he said.

He says he hasn't seen a storm of this magnitude since 1991, when Hurricane Bob hit. Ferrari remembers the pier being washed away into the Atlantic Ocean.

"Hopefully we won't have destruction here. You don't want to see it," he said.

Stores and homes along Ocean Avenue have been boarded up in preparation for Sandy's wrath.

Mary Lou Britton of Spring Lake says she's never seen anything like this before — "and I've lived here my whole life!" Britton drove down just to witness the violent waves first-hand.

Ferrari and Britton say they're ready for whatever Sandy brings. "We're not leaving," Britton stated.
